After urinating, a very small catheter (the approximate size of a strand of angel hair pasta) will be placed in your bladder. Two different solutions, approximately one ounce each, will be placed through the catheter into your bladder. You will asked questions about how each solution makes you feel. The solutions are then drained out through the catheter.
The testing takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes and is performed in our office by a Nurse Practitioner.
You will be asked to undress from the waist down. There may be slight discomfort as the catheter is inserted. In addition, there may be some discomfort and/or a feeling of urgency as one or both of the solutions are placed in the bladder. If this is the case, the testing will be considered complete, and the Nurse Practitioner will stop the test, instill a soothing solution into the bladder and remove the catheter.
Avoid a lot of liquid prior to the test and avoid taking any pain medications or medications that are used to reduce bladder spasms (Pyridiumâ„¢)
